Showcase the Daily Triumphs of Public Education
Effectively communicating the profound impact and significance of our public schools has become a formidable challenge. The narrative surrounding public education often gravitates towards crisis and unmet needs, overshadowing the remarkable efforts unfolding daily within our school walls.
Regrettably, even our own messages and those from our staunchest supporters occasionally underscore perceived shortcomings. Such an approach does not align with the truth of our work or the inherent value of our public schools. This narrative, starkly contrasts with the reality of the transformative work happening in our schools.
Why do we, as a community, place a disproportionate focus on building loyalty through discussions about our own shortcomings? While conversations about necessary resources are undeniably crucial, true inspiration and action arise from conveying the value we consistently provide.
It’s high time to shift our approach. Instead of asking communities what they can do for us, let’s explicitly outline what we, as public schools, can do for them. Public schools, as one of the nation’s most significant institutions, wield the power to transform lives. Let’s captivate our communities by showing our positive impact, illuminating how we actively contribute to their well-being and growth.
By redirecting the narrative towards our schools’ invaluable contributions, we empower ourselves to showcase the positive forces at play within our education system. Through this approach, we not only celebrate our achievements but also inspire confidence and support from our communities, reinforcing the central role of public schools in fostering a brighter future for all.
“Public education is the foundation of our democracy – it is the great equalizer of our society, the place where we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
Randi Weingarten
